Traditional Healers’ meet
The most remote district of the State is Kinnaur. It is a cold desert and remains cut off from the outside world for large part of the year. It has a unique tribal culture almost untouched by modern civilization. A part of this unique culture are the traditional healers or vaidyas. They serve the local population and are the lifeline of this remote area as modern health care facilites are mostly inaccessible to the people.
It was always in the back of our minds to share our knowledge with these healers. So when an NGO from that area invited us to be the resource persons for Traditional healers meet we gladly took the opportunity Around 25 healers’ took part in the meet. We were really moved by there knowledge and understanding of the needs of health care in their area. They were also aware of their limitations so as to when they should refer the patient to higher centres.
We realized that modern day diseases like Diabetes and Hypertension which were hitherto unknown to the people of this area are slowly spreading their wings. We gave them inputs regarding prevention early diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.
